Li ion cells have been qualified for different space applications. To decrease the power system mass, activities are performed on advanced Lithium ion batteries to reach a specifc energy of 250 Wh/kg. Results of a study on electrode materials for high specific energy lithium ion batteries will be presented. Positive electrode materials were studied in particular. High voltage spinel and coated-LiCoO2 were studied in more details. Electrochemical properties, cyclability, self-discharge results in button cells and pouch cells will be presented. |
