The original HST batteries, with 19 years of on-orbit cycle life, were replaced by astronauts during the May 2009 HST Service Mission #4. The manufacturing for the "new" batteries began in 1985, cells were activated after 4 years of dry storage in 2000, and then the batteries were stored wet for 9 years, before being installed onto HST. This paper details the prelaunch capacity verification, and the on-orbit performance of the replacement batteries. |
